Wakawaka
An area of harvest as an extension of our whanau's garden. The land we grow on is modestly a wakawaka of tea. |
Observing, Growing, Harvesting
We first observed this land. Traced the undulating contour lines with our feet. Felt the differences in soil texture between our fingers. Paid attention to the sun angles, the wind direction and intensity. We identified the existing vegetation.
We breathed in the air and become one with the landscape, moving with it in its growth into a medicinal food forest.

Education
Tea Wakawaka is part of our family-run farm and permaculture education centre, PermaDynamics, and has been a place of inspiration since we first started out.
Our education focus has been on how to work with permaculture principles to retain water, nutrients and breath natural fertility back into a landscape.
In the near future, we plan to offer 'Seed to Tincture' herbal medicine courses as a place for students to observe, grow, harvest and process herbal products amongst a highly diverse medicinal forest.

From the start of our walk upon this land, we have been practising Permaculture and Syntropy to gently cultivate a diverse medicinal forest. We have been collecting and propagating an abundance of medicinal plants that grow in a range of climate and soil types, thereby utilising all layers of a forest canopy.
We aim to produce a range of herbal tea blends that are fragrant, medicinal, flavoursome and support the healthy ecosystem they are a part of.

Piwakawaka,
You are the orchestrators of this wakawaka.
This land that we share with you,
As we grow, grow, grow a forest of herbs, of medicine, of food.
Thank you Piwakawaka,
For as you twirl about, curiously watching us from your perch,
You are teaching us to be light with our feet, and see with our heart
On this beautiful wakawaka you have helped us create.
