We are a part of a small eco-village and as a family manage roughly 2ha of land in production; market garden, tropical greenhouse, compost operation, mushroom growing, plant nursery and syntropic food forest. The rest of the 80ha of trust land is mature forest, regrowth and pasture.
Our farm is highly dynamic as it operates a wide range of permaculture systems, research projects, infrastructure expansion and also new land regeneration projects both within the community and outside.
We are looking for someone who is able to stay for a minimum of 3 months. Someone who is passionate about regeneration, community resilience and is ready to immerse themselves fully in all areas of what it takes to run a permaculture farm. This will include tasks such as food forest management, planting, digging, building with clay, sifting compost, transplanting, building terraces, installing food forests, making firewood, weeding and planting in the market garden as well as joining in for cooking and cleaning. Depending on your interests and previous experience we can also provide research opportunities during your stay.
We host regular courses which you will be allowed to attend as part of your internship, as well as access to all our online permaculture videos which we release weekly. You will also have access to our library of permaculture, syntropy and health books as well as other resources such as microscopes and flow cabinet during your stay should you want to use them.
The main focus on our farm is on degraded land regeneration. Our vision is to create future employment and networking opportunities in this field and to unite people to work together on larger scale land regeneration projects for communities around Aotearoa. Our aim with this internship, is to teach students who show an interest in permaculture, and empower them to take that knowledge on from here, to their own communities.
Ultimately we are training a team of food forest warriors to combat ecosystem collapse, build resilient communities and mitigate climate change.
Location:
Matapouri, Whangarei.
(45min from Whangarei CBD, 4km from Matapouri beach, 15/30min from Tutukaka and Ngunguru township).
Next available internship:
