Josh is an earth building enthusiast. The Wattle and Daub Earth Building course is a weekend course which covers earth building in general, with a focus on the traditional technique of Wattle and Daub and the modifications Josh has developed over 15 years.
The course covers the sourcing of local materials, timber species that require no CCA treatment, building foundations, common framing techniques, existing building retrofits and the preparation and application of clay and straw 'daub' to the modified bamboo 'wattle'.
In keeping with the PermaDynamics philosophy these tiny homes can be viewed as temporary expressions on the land. While designed and built to be warm and dry in New Zealand's wet winters they are intended to be able to be composted back into the land without leaving a toxic footprint. The remnants of these tiny houses increase the surrounding fertility and mineral content of the land they stand on.
Josh also offers services ranging from consultancy for tiny house plans to complete builds.
